Copa Bossa

Tucked in a cozy corner of Tiangge, that new arcade in front of SM City, is Copa Bossa. It's a chic cafe, two of the owners of which are our very own batchmates: Kit Maniquis and Baby Doll Antepuesto.

Recently they started a Saturday cook-out, and yesterday they served curry squid and grilled spare ribs. Yummy!! If you're in Davao, go check it out! Their iced teas are also a hit. Oh and my personal favorite is their pesto pasta.

a grade school batchmate

I've been hanging out with an old batchmate from grade school, John Pimentel. He's a businessman now, with a cellphone shop in Victoria Plaza, a fitness gym near SM (the one inside SM before, but transferring already), a day-care center in SM City, plus maybe a few more I don't know about.

Here's a picture of us at Basti's Brew. John was asking for my help with an accounting software solution. It's good to know that he's very forward-thinking about his business. I mean, a lot of shop owners shy away from computerization or automation because of the attendant costs. However, businessmen like John, he knows that IT can help save costs in the long run.

Guys, check out my IT column from time to time, ok? It's over at another blog.

Coffee shop review

Here's a story-telling-type review of coffee shops that I've just posted on another blog. Siempre I mentioned Copa Bossa. But since I haven't had much chance of hanging out over there, I wasn't really able to write anything about it. But if you (attention Kit, Baby Doll!) would like to promote the coffee shop, you can post an article on our blog!

Here's the link to my article: Ang Dabawenyo: Coffee Culture.

Idea for marketing

Guys, I have an idea to help promote our businesses, products, services, etc. Why don't we talk about what we're doing so that we can help promote/market ourselves? For example, we could do a spiel on Copa Bossa, post pictures and stuff like that. This way, we get this blog off the ground and get rolling! The more the better!

Ok, I'll get this started...

I've been working as an Information Technology industry consultant for some years now. Part of that is being the executive director of a non-profit organization of IT companies in Davao. I'm also the co-chair of the Information & Communications Technology Cluster of the Regional Economic Development Council (quite a mouthful eh?). One of my main activities now is to promote Davao's IT capabilities to Japan. In other words, we're trying to penetrate the Japanese market. It's a very slow process, but hopefully we'll get our first solid project, and things could be more smooth-sailing after that.

Speaking of Japan, I've also been teaching Japanese here in Davao. I also teach English to Japanese nationals on a one-on-one basis. But what really brings in the dough is in translation work. Aside from doing the run-of-the-mill stuff like birth certificates and marriage contracts, I've also been translating legal documents, brochures, company profiles, etc.

So there. Who's next? ;-)

Greetings Batchmates!

Happy New Year, everyone!

This is our new weblog. Sadly we've lost our own website, but fortunately, Google's blogger.com is suitable enough for our needs. And later, when we decide to reactivate our own domain name, then we can simply use that in place of this existing URL (http://ateneo88.blogspot.com). Now that blogger.com is hosting our site, there's no fear of ever losing our site anymore. The reason why we lost our original site was when our webhost had server problems and had to take down all the sites it was hosting. I'm afraid our articles, photos, etc. have all been lost.

So, now I hope that we'll all start contributing again! If you'd like to become an author (batchmates of ADDU HS88 only), please drop me a line.

If you have any suggestions for this blog, please feel free to contact me via email. However, regarding the design, I don't think I can spend much time on that as I did before when I created the original website. In the future, perhaps I may have the time, but for now I hope that this will suffice (kaunti lang din kasi ang available templates eh, kaya ito na lang ang pinili ko).

Happy blogging! (<-- I sure wish I could say I coined this term! Hehehe)
